Indian prepaid data is sold as a daily cap that resets at midnight, not as a pool you draw down over the validity. A 2 GB/day pack for 28 days gets advertised as 56 GB, which sounds like room to spare, but you cannot save Monday's untouched gigabyte for Friday's video call. If you need 2.5 GB on a normal day, you are short 0.5 GB every single day — 14 GB across the cycle — while the headline number keeps suggesting you have plenty.
This is why the arithmetic here works on the daily limit rather than the total. An earlier version of this tool divided total need by total quota and told users they needed two plans, which is not something anybody can do: operators run one active base plan at a time. What you actually buy when a day runs dry is a booster, and that is what gets priced above — ₹142.33 across a 28-day cycle on the figures loaded by default, turning a ₹719 plan into ₹861.33.
Those defaults are a plausible starting shape, not a real plan you should assume still exists. There is no plan list behind this page: the four plan fields are the whole model, so put in your own pack's daily cap, validity, price and the add-on you would buy. Tariffs move every few months and a stale lookup table would be worse than none.
Read the cost-per-GB figure rather than the plan price. It divides what you really spend by what you really use, so a plan that looks cheap while leaving you short and a plan that looks expensive while covering you comfortably become comparable.
64 Kbps is not a slow connection, it is the end of the day
Every major operator handles an exhausted daily limit the same way: the connection stays up and the speed drops to 64 Kbps until midnight. That phrasing sounds gentler than it is. It carries text messaging and very little else — no video, maps that never finish loading, calls over data that fail to connect. It is functionally offline for anything you were probably doing.
So a daily shortfall does not resolve into a slightly worse day. It resolves into a purchase, which is exactly what the booster field is for. Enter the add-on you would actually buy, because the per-GB rate varies a lot with pack size. As a sense of the spread in mid-2026: small 5G add-ons were around ₹61 for 6 GB, which is ₹10.17 a GB, while larger data vouchers ran nearer ₹4 to ₹7 a GB. Rates and pack sizes change every few months, so check yours rather than trusting these — and note that add-ons need an active base plan, they do not replace one.
The point worth taking from that spread: if you are buying boosters every cycle, the answer is a bigger daily limit rather than a bigger booster. On these defaults the ₹142.33 of top-ups is more than the step up to the next daily tier usually costs.
Where the gigabytes actually go
Roughly, per hour: 4K video around 7 GB, 1080p around 3 GB, 480p about 700 MB, browsing and social feeds between 100 and 300 MB depending on how much autoplay video the feed carries. Music streaming is negligible next to any of it.
Which means the difference between a plan that fits and one that does not is often a single settings screen. Forcing video to SD on a phone-sized display, turning off autoplay, and restricting app updates and photo backup to Wi-Fi can halve a daily figure without changing what you actually do. Worth trying before paying for a larger cap.
What this does not tell you
Whether the plan is worth its price overall. Most packs bundle unlimited calls, SMS and a stack of OTT subscriptions, and those are a large part of what you are paying for. Judging a ₹719 plan purely on its data is unfair to the plan.

And it cannot know your usage for you; a guessed daily figure produces a confident wrong answer.
Reading your own usage before you enter it
The single input this calculation depends on is the one people guess. Both Android and iOS keep a running mobile-data total in settings; take a full week and divide by seven, because one day is never representative.

One deliberate simplification: this treats every day as the same day. Real usage is lumpy — a heavy Saturday, three light weekdays — and a plan that covers your average will still run dry on the heavy day while wasting headroom on the light ones. Entering an average tells you whether the plan fits the month; entering your worst realistic day tells you whether it fits the day you will actually mind. Both are worth a run.
It also prices the shortfall at whatever booster rate you enter, assuming you would buy that add-on every time. In practice most people absorb a few 64 Kbps evenings and buy on the days that matter, so treat the top-up figure as the ceiling of what the gap costs rather than a bill you are certain to pay.
